Filth is voted Lord of the Manor

In a recent poll of Suffolk Icons, led by Choose Suffolk, Cradle Of Filth’s infamous frontman, Dani Filth, has won the election and bagged himself the title of Lord Filth.

Broomhill Swimming Pool in Ipswich, a pint of Adnams, a Suffolk Punch and the Middy Train also feature at the top of the list. Tourism manager Alex Paul said that the submission of Dani as an “icon” showed that there was more to Suffolk than just natural beauty spots – “It’s about everyone’s voices being heard. It’s not about going for the obvious and people feel that Dani Filth is an icon and is as important to people as a pint of Adnams.”

Of is glorious win, Dani says: “I’m looking into what my title allows, whether that’s driving a flock of sheep through the town centre on a bank holiday or the keys to every inn and wine cellar in the county. I’ve also been looking into a nice new country pile, the parties will be immense, the kind Lord Byron would throw if he had access to some Slayer albums. Im fully expecting it to help get me a better table when I eat out too, especially in the US. Ultimately this is a great opportunity to mess with people’s perceptions…”

Is Suffolk as filthy as its chosen icon? Certainly not in aesthetics but perhaps in mentality. What this little election says is that Suffolk has a sense of humour and is willing to shake up the status quo by stirring up the filth. Suffolk has challenged the elitism associated with the the hoity-toity, very English, notion of reverence and esteem that pervades the country, even in this modern age. Suffolk is leading a mini revolution in thought and as Dani says, the vote will challenge perceptions.

Applause to the new Lord Filth who is sure to wield his manorial staff in categorical defiance of conformity and convention.
