Let’s talk about living life in a bubble. Barack Obama, on his recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, illustrated this idiom by explaining how his secret service agents would not let him walk 750 yards (5 minutes) to the Fairground upon his arrival in Costa Mesa. I’ll bet Mr Obama wishes his bubble of secret service protection extended to foot-in-mouth disease. To be honest, likening one’s bowling skills to a performance at the Special Olympics is a joke to be made by anyone – I guess it becomes a little more complicated when it is made by the US president. The Telegraph a.k.a Toreygraph has slated Mr O in a short article entitled Barack Obama on Jay Leno risks becoming a bore, in which columnist Simon Heffer accuses the president of the United States of America of being “blokeish”. Me thinks a surname like Heffer and a word like ‘blokeish’ gives license to call this writer a bore. Mr O braved his critics and an angered public by becoming the first sitting US president to make an appearance on a chat show. Amidst trying to explain why $165 million bonuses were paid to AIG with public bail out money, the man made a bad joke. For shit’s sake people, how about the fact that Mr O is dealing with the worst economic crisis in 80 years? Damn those bankers. I commend Mr O for embracing the challenge of making a difference in adverse (to say the least) conditions. He has been in office for just two months. Does the man who has made history not deserve a chance to make good on his promises?
